For her supporting role as Sophie MacDonald in The Razor’s Edge, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as a Golden Globe, and she later earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress as Eve Harrington in Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s classic All About Eve (1950). Throughout her career she worked with major directors including Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, and Cecil B. DeMille, while also appearing regularly on stage and in television productions, including series such as East of Eden and Hotel.
